On Jan. 14, 2019 Springbrook Heritage Alliance filed a CEQA lawsuit against the City of Riverside and the developer of a 308,000 sq.-ft. warehouse across the street from the Ab Brown Sports Complex and real close to the historic 1862 Trujillo Adobe. This is not the right location for commercial or industrial, and the people who live here have been fighting this kind of development for more than a hundred years. But, Council approved the project without an EIR.
This is Riverside's oldest neighborhood. It is older even than Riverside. It is connected to the site of old La Placita de los Trujillos (est. 1844) at the base of La Loma Hills. La Placita is connected to the village of Agua Mansa on the other side of the Santa Ana River. Agua Mansa is connected to the Old Spanish Trail. The OST is connected to Mission San Gabriel and Olvera Street to the west and Abiquiu, NM, to the east, and all the places on the map in between them, and beyond. There is a lot of exciting history here, literally everywhere you walk, and it goes back to prehistoric times
We want to save it. It could be the focus of an economic renaissance for the Northside and we have a proposal for a land use plan based on the neighborhood's history called Springbrook Heritage Parklands & Walking Trails. Which would you rather do, drive by a warehouse or attend an honest-to-goodness old southwestern-style Fandango and barbecue?
But, if the warehouse goes in, others will follow, and the historical places will be swallowed up by asphalt and concrete, and the people who live over here will be breathing diesel fumes 24/7/365. So, we have to stop the warehouse first.
Will you help us save our heritage? Here's what you can do:
